Overview

General Matter is enriching uranium in America. Our mission is to restore our country’s ability to make nuclear fuel. Our fuel will help power AI, manufacturing, and other critical industries. It will power our next generation of reactors. Ultimately, it will power our national ambitions.

We were incubated by Founders Fund, like Anduril and Palantir before us, and we are backed by top tier investors. Our lean, world-class team of engineers and operators is applying a first-principles approach to solving the problem of nuclear fuel production. We are a mission-driven company with a culture of urgency, accountability and transparency.

Staff Accountant

As an accountant at General Matter, you will operate at the intersection of hands-on execution and systems design. You’ll build core accounting operations while laying the groundwork for scalable processes, strong internal controls, and future team growth. The ideal candidate is comfortable with ambiguity, moves quickly, and is comfortable partnering with technical stakeholders. You’ll partner closely with leadership, engineering, operations, and external advisors as General Matter transitions from early-stage operations to a scaled industrial enterprise.

Responsibilities
  • Own and execute core accounting operations, including monthly close, journal entries, accruals, and account reconcilations.
  • Design and implement foundational accounting processes, policies, and documentation to support scale.
  • Build and manage the accrual process, ensuring accurate and timely expense recognition.
  • Review open purchase orders and collaborate with operations and procurement to ensure proper tracking and closure.
  • Partner cross-functionally to improve expense visibility, budgeting inputs, and interdepartmental communication.
  • Develop and implement internal controls and procedures appropriate for a growing, regulated, advanced manufacturing environment.
  • Prepare financial schedules, supporting documentation, and analyses for management and external stakeholders.
  • Research and resolve accounting issues and variances, applying strong US GAAP judgment.
  • Support system selection, implementation, and optimization (e.g., ERP, close tools, expense systems) as the company grows.
  • Establish a strong control environment while maintaining a practical, business-oriented approach.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Strong knowledge in US GAAP with a mix of technical and operational accounting experience.
Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Highly detail-oriented with strong Excel skills and experience working with ERP systems.
  • Experience building or improving accounting processes in a high-growth or early-stage environment.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and operate effectively in an ambiguous, fast-moving organization.
  • Comfortable “getting hands dirty” while also partnering with leadership on higher-level priorities.
  • CPA (active or inactive) and/or MBA preferred.
  • Prior experience in advanced manufacturing, energy, industrial, or technology-driven companies is a plus.
Additional Requirements
  • Willing to work extended hours and weekends as needed
  • This position is based in Los Angeles, CA and requires being onsite full-time – hybrid and remote work will not be considered
