Position: Financial Services Analyst 1

Job Summary

Under direct supervision, serves as an entry‑level financial services professional who learns to use established financial services concepts, policies, and procedures to perform routine payroll and financial processing tasks. Works on assignments that are initially limited in scope and complexity, following standard practices and receiving regular guidance and review. Applies organizational policies and defined procedures to review payroll and time‑keeping data for accuracy, perform data entry, basic reconciliations, and routine error resolution, escalating non‑standard or complex issues to higher‑level analysts.

Responds to routine customer and departmental inquiries related to payroll and time‑keeping systems and refers complex matters for additional review. Supports payroll operations with attention to detail, accuracy, confidentiality, and adherence to collective bargaining agreements and applicable regulatory and policy requirements. Utilizes multiple systems and platforms, including People Soft and related applications, to complete assigned tasks. Works cooperatively as part of a team, demonstrating initiative, clear communication, and flexibility in adapting to changing priorities and operational needs.

Shares responsibility for coverage during high‑volume periods, provides reliable customer service, and contributes to departmental knowledge‑sharing. Participates in training and development activities to acquire the skills and knowledge necessary for increasingly independent work. Performs special projects and other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Basic knowledge of payroll, financial, or accounting concepts, processes and procedures.
  • Basic mathematical skills and order‑operations concepts to calculate timesheets.
  • Proficiency using ERP systems (ex: Peoplesoft), spreadsheets, and database software.
  • Interpersonal skills, service orientation, active listening, critical thinking, attention to detail, ability to multi‑task in a high‑volume environment, effective verbal and written communication skills and organizational skills.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impacts on protecting university resources.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in Payroll or Finance desired
  • Basic knowledge of financial and accounting concepts, processes, and procedures.
  • Proficiency in analyzing financial data and reconciling accounts.
  • Ability to work accurately under deadlines and manage multiple financial tasks.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in spreadsheet and database software (e.g., Excel, financial systems).
  • Ability to function effectively as part of a financial services team and collaborate with multiple stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
  • 60% – Processes biweekly and monthly payroll for School of Medicine, Network, and Primary Care Hospital employees by reviewing time and attendance data for accuracy, performing routine payroll transactions and data entry, completing reconciliations, preparing final pay and other recurring payroll tasks, and processing off‑cycle and ad‑hoc payments in accordance with standard practices.
  • 40% – Customer service, payroll related data reports and other tasks.
