The Senior Tax Accountant will assist in many aspects of the company’s tax functions, including tax compliance, planning, and reporting. This role involves working closely with managers and above to ensure that the company’s tax positions are optimal, compliant with regulations, and aligned with overall business objectives. The role will primarily focus on the US and Canada but can extend to other jurisdictions if necessary.
This position reports to the Tax Manager.
- Prepare detailed, organized, and cross‑referenced working papers that agree with ASC 740 and SSAP 101 templates in support of financial statements and disclosures.
- Prepare and maintain support for deferred tax inventories and balance‑sheet review of deferred tax items.
- Prepare tax journal entries and reconcile tax accounts.
- Assist with preparation of tax footnote disclosures for US GAAP, US Statutory and Canadian OFSI.
- Prepare supporting documentation to support positions on US tax attributes.
- Assist in ensuring tax controls are operating effectively and gather support for internal and external auditor testing.
- Assist in review of all company Federal, state and local tax returns (e.g., 1120, 1120PC, 1120F, 1065, 5471, 5472, 8858, 1042, 720).
- Assist in gathering and providing information to external tax preparer.
- Prepare and review return‑to‑provision in Corp Tax and analyze differences.
- Prepare monthly sales tax filings for NY and other required forms not completed by external preparer.
- Ensure tax payments are made timely with supporting documentation.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices.
- Maintain fixed‑assets for tax books for all US subsidiaries in Workday ledger.
- Assist in IRS and State audit examinations by compiling relevant data for IDRs and tracking resolution of notices.
- Research new tax adjustments or issues, communicate findings to Tax Manager and directors, and assist in drafting memoranda.
- Support information requests and questions from audit firms and internal teams.
- Maintain organized and thorough tax records and documentation.
- Monitor current and proposed tax law changes to determine impact.
- Assist with selected projects such as information reporting, transfer pricing, tax planning and modeling.
- Working knowledge of ASC 740, SSAP 101, and GAAP accounting.
- Minimum B.S. in Accounting with a tax concentration; M.S. in tax a plus.
- 3‑5 years experience in taxation for property and casualty insurance companies.
- 2‑4 years public accounting experience servicing property and casualty insurance clients preferred.
- Knowledge of Corp Tax a plus.
- Strong analytical, reasoning, and Excel skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Self‑starter, adaptable, and able to work independently.
- Strong interpersonal and team collaboration skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Fluency in English required.

Salary Range
US $120,000 – $130,000 per year.
