The Transaction Privilege Tax (TPT) Auditor 3 is responsible for performing audits and refund reviews for all taxing jurisdictions subject to transaction privilege and use tax, and reviewing various state/city/town tax issues from simple to average complexity. This role determines tax liabilities involving transaction privilege, excise, and use taxes, and prepares working papers and recommendations for the final audit memorandum.
This role will be responsible for conducting occasional field audits, which may require in and out of state travel, up to two weeks in duration.

This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.

Job Duties Audit Reviews- Conduct simple to average complex audit and refund reviews involving the accurate calculation and application of tax laws, rules and regulations, policies, and procedures of the department in a consistent manner to all taxpayers.
- Accurate and timely examinations of audits based on information requested through correspondence with taxpayers and/or changes in calculations resulting from information provided regarding the audit.
- Inspect and examine returns, make determinations, and recommend return of audits.
- Elicit clarifying information, accept evidence, evaluate testimony in a written decision, and prepare case files if/as necessary.
- Fully document audits to support the department's position and maintain the audit file in an orderly manner.
- Prepare work papers, audit reports, and weekly reports.
- Research complicated issues and resolve taxpayer appeals timely, fairly, accurately and consistently.
- Explain audit adjustments and conclusions to taxpayers and/or representatives.
- Discuss audit adjustments and positions with taxpayers and/or representatives.
- Educate taxpayers in tax law, rules and regulations and ensure taxpayer compliance through the audit process.
- Conduct in‐person, in‑and out‑of‑state field audits, as assigned.
- Remain current on all laws, regulations, policies, and best practices related to taxation through regular engagement in activities such as self‑directed research, conferring with other practitioners and technical experts, subscriptions to regulatory/legal/industry newsletters and briefs, membership in industry associations and attendance at meetings/events, and participation in training and other continuing education opportunities.
- Actively contribute to team and individual effectiveness through staff meetings, huddles, completion of required training, participation in work teams, periodic metrics, projects, huddle boards and reports, and 1:1 coaching with supervisor.
