Job Title: Tax Trainee Location: Hybrid Working – Cardiff CF10 (In office 5 days a week for first 6 months)
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 35-hour week (Flexitime)
Salary Range: £23,000 - £26,000
The Tax Trainee role is designed for individuals who are eager to learn and grow as a well-rounded Tax Advisor. Responsibilities include preparing basic tax returns, understanding key tax deadlines, supporting senior team members. The role requires a proactive approach, strong communication skills, and the ability to adapt to a team environment. Trainees must keep up with apprenticeship tasks, exams, and studies, and proactively seek guidance when needed.

In this role, you will:
- Take initiative and proactively engage with assigned tasks and projects
- Preparing simple tax returns and gaining an understanding of the key tax filing deadlines and tax rates
- Learn on the job and adapt effectively within a collaborative team environment
- Maintain progress with apprenticeship requirements, including exams and study commitments
- Build strong relationships with fellow trainees across the firm
- Demonstrate respect for and alignment with BKL’s values and culture
- Foster trust within the team to earn increasing responsibility over time
- Seek regular feedback and respond constructively to support personal development
- Internship or entry-level experience in an accounting or finance environment preferred.
- Basic Microsoft Office skills, willingness to learn, proactivity, positive approach, good communication, and attention to detail. A strong work ethic and can execute tasks as instructed.
- For graduates, 2:1 bachelor’s degree. For school leavers, BBC across 3 A-levels or equivalent.
- Working towards ATT, ACA or ACCA qualification (or Joint ATT/CTA or ACA/CTA).
- Meet utilisation expectations for level in line with budget and recovery targets
- Act ethically and maintain professionalism with clients and colleagues
- Represent the firm professionally in meetings, emails, and onsite visits
- Attending college days, completing mock assessments and keeping on top of apprenticeship tasks
- Dedicate 20% of working hours to CPD, including college, on-the-job, and refresher training
