Financial Accountant

Citadel Source are delighted to be supporting a fast-growing, private equity-backed business in recruiting a Financial Accountant. This is a key role within a high-performing finance team, helping to scale and professionalise the finance function.

The role

The Financial Accountant will play a critical role in delivering accurate financial reporting, strong controls, and audit-ready outputs in a private equity-backed environment. You will work closely with senior finance leadership and operational teams, taking ownership of core accounting processes while supporting commercial decision-making. This role suits a technically strong accountant who thrives under high expectations, enjoys detail-focused work, and values being part of a high-performing finance team.

As a Financial Accountant, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

• Own the month-end close process and deliver accurate management accounts to tight deadlines
• Prepare month-end journals and balance sheet reconciliations
• Produce statutory accounts and manage the year-end audit process
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax, and regulatory requirements
• Prepare information for corporation tax returns and manage payments on account
• Prepare and review VAT returns; liaise with external advisors
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and private equity reporting requirements
• Partner with operational and commercial teams to provide financial insight and challenge
• Identify and implement process and control improvements
• Support finance system enhancements and continuous improvement initiatives
• Manage the transactional finance team

What the client is looking for

• ACA / ACCA / CIMA qualified (or finalist with strong experience)
• Proven experience in a practice or similar role
• Strong technical accounting and statutory reporting knowledge
• Comfortable analysing data, with strong Excel skills
• Able to work to pace and manage competing deadlines
• Commercially aware, proactive, and detail-focused
• Strong communicator, confident, engaging with all levels of the business
• Experience with in a private equity-backed, high-growth, or highly commercial environment preferred
