Bookkeeping & Financial Services Firm (Service-Based Businesses)

Reports to: Founder / Lead Accountant

Role Overview Lead tax strategy, compliance, and optimization for entrepreneurs, contractors, and service-based clients. Deliver accurate filings, proactive tax planning, and insights to maximize profits, minimize liability, and support business growth.

• Prepare and file federal, state, and local tax returns (individual, business, payroll, sales tax)
• Manage multi-state tax compliance, nexus tracking, and sales tax obligations
• Develop personalized tax strategies: deductions, credits, entity structuring, retirement planning
• Identify and apply relevant deductions/credits (QBI, home office, vehicle, R&D where applicable)
• Oversee quarterly estimated payments, extensions, and year-end planning
• Coordinate with external CPAs/attorneys for complex returns or audits
• Provide tax guidance during client consultations and financial reviews
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of tax law changes impacting small businesses
• Review client books for tax accuracy and optimization opportunities
• Mentor junior staff on tax processes as needed

• Bachelor’s in Accounting/Finance; CPA or EA required
• 5+ years progressive tax experience
• 3+ years serving small businesses, entrepreneurs, or service-based clients
• Strong knowledge of small business taxation, pass-through entities, and self-employment rules
• Experience with tax software (Quick Books, Xero, Lacerte, Drake, or similar)
• Detail-oriented with excellent client communication skills
