CARB‑X is a global non‑profit partnership under the School of Law dedicated to accelerating antibacterial research to tackle the rising threat of drug‑resistant bacteria. The CARB‑X portfolio is the world’s largest early‑development pipeline of new antibiotics, vaccines, rapid diagnostics and other products to prevent, diagnose and treat life‑threatening bacterial infections. CARB‑X is grant‑funded and supported by multiple government and foundation funders.
The environment is innovative, dynamic, energetic and rapidly evolving. The Senior Finance and Research Administrator is part of the Finance & Research Administration (FRA) team at CARB‑X supporting all financial functions.
- Budget development, monitoring and management of a sub‑portfolio of Product Developers.
- Lead review of application budget workbooks, contract set‑ups through the Sponsored Program office, and training of award recipients on award requirements and compliance during the pre‑award phase.
- Analysis and processing of financial activity, review and approval of financial transactions (invoices, purchase orders, consulting agreements, etc.), quarterly financial reporting, monitoring of burn rates and other relevant metrics during the post‑award phase.
- Advise on and execute award actions (supplements, no‑cost extensions, rebudgeting, new phases) with appropriate justification.
- Identify financial risks and propose mitigation opportunities.
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of research compliance policies and processes, including animal and human subjects research requirements and the pre‑requisite conditions for institutional and funder approvals.
- Collaborate with BU Central Offices to ensure alignment and effective outcomes of financial and project compliance elements of the contracted CARB‑X projects.
- Ensure conformance to the budget by award recipients, ensure all costs are allowable, allocable, reasonable and consistently treated in compliance with BU sponsor regulations.
- Administer monthly payment invoices and verify expenses are in line with the budget and that cost‑share obligations are appropriately managed.
- Conduct Product Developer financial site visits as applicable to ensure compliance.
- Identify problems and propose resolutions, contribute to development of new systems, processes and tools, document financial business processes in run books and SOPs, and engage in improved process initiatives.
- Support CARB‑X financial systems and reporting, refresh data used in reporting, review metrics, reconcile reports, and resolve data integrity issues.

The Senior Finance and Research Administrator position will be hybrid remote and occasional in‑person.
