Working 36.5 hours per week
About the RoleWe are seeking an experienced finance professional to play a senior role within the Finance function, leading delivery across designated service areas and supporting strategic decision‑making. You will manage and develop a team, provide high‑quality financial insight, and ensure robust governance, compliance and performance across the service.
This is a pivotal role, combining leadership, financial expertise and stakeholder engagement to help shape effective financial planning and service delivery across the organisation.
What You’ll Be Doing- Deputise for the Finance Manager where required, making informed decisions and resolving complex issues.
- Lead and manage a team, including work allocation, performance management, recruitment and development.
- Provide expert financial advice to senior officers and budget holders on complex budgets and operational issues.
- Lead on forecasting, financial modelling and long‑term planning to support business and project decisions.
- Analyse performance and financial data, producing high‑quality reports that influence senior decision‑making.
- Ensure compliance with statutory regulations, financial procedures, policies and governance requirements.
- Drive continuous improvement in financial processes, data quality, systems and service delivery.
You will be a confident finance professional with strong analytical capability, leadership skills and experience operating in a complex organisational environment.
You Will Have- Experience managing a finance team and delivering services within a complex organisation.
- Strong knowledge of local government finance, including management accounting, budgeting, forecasting and performance management.
- Experience providing financial advice to senior stakeholders and influencing decision‑making.
- Excellent analytical and numerical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and develop solutions.
- Strong communication and relationship‑building skills across internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience working in politically sensitive environments and contributing to corporate initiatives and change.
- CCAB qualification (or equivalent experience) and commitment to ongoing professional development.
- Play a key role in shaping financial decision‑making across critical services.
- Lead and develop a team in a professional, supportive finance environment.
- Influence long‑term planning, service improvement and value for money outcomes.
- Work closely with senior leaders across the organisation.
- Develop your career within a large, complex and high‑impact public sector organisation.
