Job SummaryThe Inventory Accountant is one of three roles reporting directly to the Inventory Accounting Manager for the Local Solutions business unit. This team owns the full end‑to‑end accounting and controls process related to inventory movements within Local Solutions, and plays a critical role in establishing best practices for inventory management and documentation.
Job LocationThis is a remote position with some travel; candidates are ideally located on the East Coast.
Responsibilities- Coordinate inventory cycle‑count cadences for raw materials, work in process, produced finished goods, and purchased finished goods across designated regions.
- Partner with plant operations to conduct cycle counts, reconcile counts to the general ledger, and post differences, coordinating with Finance Business Partners on count deltas before posting large variances.
- Manage accounting for excess and obsolete inventory, including calculating and maintaining reserve rates, and collaborating with operations to address slow or non‑moving stock.
- Coordinate annual full physical inventory processes (Q4) for all plants in the area, working with finance and accounting leads to ensure coverage and support.
- Collaborate with FP&A and Finance Business Partnering teams to produce reports and updates on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to inventory.
- Actively participate in initial inventory setup for M&A locations, including initial balances and obsolete considerations.
- Monitor and coordinate necessary inventory transactions for specially produced inventory.
- Research, analyze, and reconcile intercompany inventory movements.
- Research, analyze, and resolve issues with inventory balances, movements, back flushing, and related matters.
- Prepare and submit balance sheet reconciliations for all inventory accounts across designated regions.
- Prepare and post adjusting journal entries related to inventory transactions.
- Review month‑end balance sheet and P&L variance accounts related to inventory to ensure accurate reporting.
- Handle other ad‑hoc items as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field; advanced degrees, CMA, CPA are a plus.
- Relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree for the right candidate.
- 2+ years of manufacturing finance and/or cost accounting experience.
- Experience with complex ERP systems (e.g., Oracle, SAP, Sys Pro, Sage); SAP S/4 HANA preferred.
- Advanced MS Office proficiency.
- Travel of 10% or more; up to 50% in Q4 for full physical inventory support.
- Continuous improvement mindset, able to identify process gaps and implement best practices.
- Results‑oriented delivery of accurate, complete, and timely products and services.
- Ability to act independently as a subject‑matter expert with limited supervision.
- Ability to implement ideas across a multi‑plant environment.
- Ability to influence others without a direct reporting relationship.
- Base salary range: $65,000 – $110,000 per year.
