About the Manager of Investment Operations Position
The Charles Stewart Mott Foundation is seeking a Manager of Investment Operations to oversee all investment operations functions within the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation’s investment office. Reporting to Nancy Orr, Chief Investment Officer, and overseeing a staff of three team members, this role will be responsible for managing investment accounting, reporting, cash management, investment execution, document and research management support, and vendor management.
This full-time position is based at the Investment Department’s office in Troy, Michigan, with some remote work. (Please note that effective late summer
2026, the Investment office will be relocating to Ann Arbor, Michigan.)
- Cash management: Perform daily reconciliations of bank accounts to verify that all wire transfers have been accurately released and received. Review and approve office-related invoices and support the CIO in the preparation of the annual investment office budget.
- External service providers and technology vendors: Oversee and maintain third party relationships with technology vendors, custodians, consultants, etc. Stay current on new services and technology in the market, proactively recommend any changes that should be considered, and lead the implementation of any recommended actions.
- Investment accounting: Oversee investment accounting data in the portfolio management system and reconcile data monthly to the administrator.
- Investment execution: Oversee the completion of all documents associated with subscribing or redeeming from an alternative investment. Work with the investment team to ensure the documents are completed correctly and submitted on time. Set up all new imu re investments in the environment including communication with the administrator and adding to any technology systems.
- Procedures: Establish and maintain an investment operations procedure manual, proactively recommending process improvements.
- Reporting: Generate investment committee reporting and internal reporting in an accurate and efficient manner.
- Team development and management: Recruit, train and manage operations team members within the investment office.
- Transparency data oversight: Ensure the accuracy and completeness of transparency data in the portfolio management system, collaborating with the vendor to identify and resolve any gaps or errors.
- Bachelor’s degree plus 5+ years of experience in investment operations, finance and/or accounting for an endowment, foundation, family office, bank or accounting/asset management firm.
- Experience with alternative investments preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering error free work.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent analytical and data management skills as well as proficiency in using Microsoft Excel; familiarity with other investment-related technology is preferred.
- Ability to work alongside a small, entrepreneurial team in an open and collegial environment that stresses continuous learning, lack of ego and proactive problem solving.
- Demonstrated experience enhancing investment operations and/or risk functions within an organization.
