MORTGAGE UNDERWRITER – REMOTE (EASTERN TIME ZONE)

The Mortgage Underwriter ensures that all reviewed assets meet applicable investor guidelines through a comprehensive understanding of requirements and regulations. You will be accountable for the quality and accuracy of underwriting decisions.

• Make decisions on a full range of mortgage loans, preferably including FHA loans.
• Review mortgage applications and documentation for accuracy and completeness.
• Collaborate with clients to prepare applications and resolve outstanding issues.
• Work with compliance officers to ensure Federal, State, and local compliance of all mortgage and loan materials.
• Approve or deny mortgages promptly and accurately.
• Perform additional duties as required and assigned.
• Demonstrate behaviors aligned with the organization’s culture and values.

• Mortgage industry expertise with strong underwriting experience.
• DE Underwriter certification (preferred).
• Proficiency in DU (Desktop Underwriter) and LP (Loan Prospector) automated underwriting systems.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to perform credit reviews and ensure compliance with investor guidelines.

• Education:
  
  High School Diploma required; some college preferred.
• Solid knowledge of mortgage underwriting and automated underwriting systems.
• Familiarity with mortgage laws and regulations, including the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act.
• Knowledge of state and federal agency mortgage loan guidelines and regulations helpful.

• Expert Level – Minimum 5 recent years of mortgage underwriting experience (preferably FHA loans).

• 100% Remote (work Eastern Time Zone hours).
• Competitive pay: $31–$35/hour.
• Contract‑to‑hire opportunity with full benefits upon conversion.

Contract to Hire position. Fully remote, with work hours in the Eastern Time Zone. Based in Chicago, IL.

The pay range for this position is $31.00 - $35.00/hr.
