Additional Notes:
Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join a high-performing finance team. Reporting to the CFO and Finance Manager, the Senior Accountant will take ownership of core accounting operations and the month-end close, providing accurate financial reporting, variance analysis, and decision-support insights to management. This role is perfect for a detail-oriented professional with strong analytical skills and experience managing complex, high-volume accounting activities across multiple entities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead month-end close activities, including journal entries, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations (bank, AR, deferred revenue, prepaid expenses, etc.).
- Perform SaaS revenue recognition, including revenue schedules, deferred revenue roll-forwards, and true-ups for subscription, usage-based, and multi-element arrangements.
- Reconcile high-volume transactions across billing systems, cash receipts, and payment platforms.
- Partner with Billing, Revenue Operations, and Sales to ensure accurate invoicing, credits, and refunds.
- Maintain and enhance internal controls, documentation, and close processes.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements, automation, and efficiencies within accounting and reporting workflows.
The successful candidate is analytically minded and comfortable collaborating on variance analysis, with the ability to assess whether the numbers make sense and to question unusual trends or data flows. Experience in fast-paced, scaling organizations—such as tech startups—is strongly preferred as this role requires depth, structure, and exposure to complex sophisticated systems and processes. Proficiency in Excel and Google Sheets, along with experience using ERP systems is essential and subscription billing platforms would be a huge asset.
While a CPA or progress toward a CPA is an asset, a high-performing “rockstar” from a tech environment without a designation may be considered. This individual is hands-on, hard-working, and adaptable—willing to roll up their sleeves, communicate effectively across teams, and take on a broad range of responsibilities to support the business. A strong desire to be in the office for work collaboration and team cohesiveness is expected.
What will make you stand out:
- Proven experience in a tech or SaaS environment with high transaction volume, low price points, and complex data flows, demonstrating the ability to manage accuracy at scale across multiple entities and intercompany transactions.
- Strong accounting judgment with the confidence to question variances, investigate anomalies, and ensure revenue recognition, cash management, and reconciliations truly reflect business activity.
- Hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves mindset with a track record of improving accounting processes, internal controls, and efficiencies in fast-paced, growing organizations.
- CPA designated or close to completion of your accounting designation
