The Opportunity
Mawer Investment Management is currently looking for an exceptional and experienced new member to join our Calgary team and continue to build on our successes in investment counselling with private clients in Canada. Responsible for business development, relationship management, portfolio oversight, and community representation, the successful candidate will help grow our private client and family office businesses.
The role of an Associate Investment Counsellor is a training role to eventually become an Investment Counsellor. The role will be mentored by an Investment Counsellor or two who will be the primary contact for helping groom and learn the business. The incumbent will expect to be a self-starter who has the internal drive to succeed.
This position reports to the Senior Manager of Individual Client Management.
Role Responsibilities
Portfolio Management
Develop, recommend, and execute investment strategies to achieve clients’ investment objectivesApply holistic oversight, consolidated investment policy design, asset allocation, and asset location in client portfoliosClearly communicate the firm’s investment strategies to clients, including their rationale, implications, and expected consequencesComply with appropriate processes, policies, and regulations in performing assigned responsibilitiesAssume responsibility for all aspects of client service and reporting, including compliance, quarterly investment commentary, quarterly reporting, and client review meetingsCoordinate all client requests with appropriate areas of the firmBusiness Development
Develop strategic alliances, cultivate referrals, and build Mawer’s relationships and presencePromote Mawer through active community networkingA winning and growth mindsetPlanning
Build and update financial plans for Investment Counsellors to deliver to clientsOver time, take the lead in client planning conversations and support execution in coordination with the client’s key partnersDesired Qualifications
4+ years of relevant experienceCFA designation / CIM designationAR/AAR designation or the ability to be registeredPrevious relationship management skillsStrong values and client centric mindsetStrong business development background with a growth and winning mindsetPrevious planning experiences with clientsStrong external network of Centres of InfluenceStrong communication and presentation skillsTeam player with a can-do mindsetPrevious portfolio management skills would be an assetCFP or PFP would be an assetWhy Mawer?
