Job Summary
FVG is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Mortgage / Credit Underwriter with Canadian market experience to join our remote team. In this role, you will be responsible for evaluating mortgage and credit applications, assessing borrower risk, and ensuring lending decisions align with Canadian lending guidelines, client requirements, regulatory standards, and internal quality benchmarks. This role requires strong judgment, accuracy, and the ability to work independently in a virtual, offshore environment supporting Canadian mortgage files.
Key Responsibilities
Review and underwrite Canadian mortgage and credit applications in accordance with client, investor, and regulatory guidelinesAnalyze borrower financial profiles, including credit reports (Equifax and Trans Union), income, employment, assets, liabilities, and debt-to-income ratiosReview income documentation such as T4s, Notices of Assessment (NOAs), pay stubs, and bank statementsCalculate and validate GDS, TDS, and Loan-to-Value (LTV) ratiosEvaluate property-related documentation including appraisals, purchase agreements, title reports, and insuranceIdentify risk factors and recommend loan approvals, denials, or conditional approvalsEnsure loan files are complete, accurate, and compliant prior to final decisionRequest, review, and validate additional documentation as requiredMaintain thorough underwriting notes and documentation within loan origination or credit systemsCommunicate underwriting decisions and conditions clearly with remote team members and Canadian client stakeholdersMeet turnaround time and quality benchmarks while managing multiple files remotelyStay current with underwriting guidelines, Canadian mortgage regulations, and industry best practicesQualifications & Requirements
Bachelors degree in Finance, Business, Economics, or a related field (or equivalent experience)Minimum of 2+ years experience in Canadian mortgage or credit underwritingStrong understanding of Canadian mortgage lending, credit analysis, and risk assessmentFamiliarity with underwriting guidelines (Conventional, Insured / Uninsured, or other applicable Canadian programs)Experience reviewing credit reports, income documentation, and full mortgage loan filesHigh attention to detail with strong analytical and decision-making skillsExcellent written and verbal communication skills in a remote work settingAbility to work independently, manage deadlines, and collaborate across time zonesAbility to support partial Canadian working hoursPreferred Qualifications
Experience working in a fully remote or offshore underwriting environmentFamiliarity with loan origination systems (LOS) or underwriting platformsKnowledge of Canadian compliance and regulatory standards in mortgage or consumer lendingExperience supporting multiple Canadian lenders or high-volume underwriting workflowsWhat Success Looks Like
