Aboutthis Role
Stenberg College is seeking a Senior Accountant to join our Finance team. This position is well-suited for a detail-oriented and analytical professional who excels at transforming financial data into actionable insights
. The successful candidate will work closely with academic and operational leaders to support budgeting, forecasting, and reporting, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and efficiency in financial operations.
- Location: Hybrid – Surrey, BC (combination of in-person and remote work)
- Employment Type: Permanent, Full-Time
- Start Date: As soon as possible
- Salary: $85,000–$100,000 per year, plus benefits
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and schedules.
- Conduct detailed variance analysis and commentary for internal partners.
- Ensure timely financial report submission across departments, entities and Head office.
- Assist in the preparation of specialized reports as requested.
- Support the preparation of the annual budget and quarterly forecasts.
- Oversee general ledger functions including journal entries, reconciliations, and accruals.
- Review and approve month-end close activities to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Maintain financial controls and lead the audit preparation and coordination.
- Perform review of invoices and payments and ensure adequacy of supporting documentation and the necessary approvals.
- Provide intracompany bank transfers and assist with treasury functions and cash flow reporting.
- Maintain Rent and Equipment Lease schedule.
- Supervise and support the accounting team in day-to-day operations.
- Train, mentor, and evaluate staff performance to promote growth and development.
- Coordinate workload to meet deadlines and ensure high-quality output.
- Ensure adherence to accounting standards, internal policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Support tax filings, government remittances, and cross-border compliance activities.
- Coordinate with various departments and brokers to meet insurance requirements and renewal.
- Identify inefficiencies and propose enhancements to accounting processes and systems.
- Lead implementation of best practices in financial operations and reporting tools.
- Ensure integrity of the accounting process is maintained
- Lead transition to new system
- Partner with academic and operational leaders to deliver financial insights and support.
- Coordinate and work with different internal and external partners to resolve issues obtain solutions
- Ad hoc Reporting
- Perform other related duties as required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field (required).
- CPA designation in progress would be an asset.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and IFRS/ASPE financial reporting standards.
- Experience with ERP systems (e.g., Oracle and Quick books).
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, data modeling, and financial forecasting).

- Experience in post-secondary education or a multi-entity environment considered an asset.
