Niyam IT is seeking a full time Controller to join our team. This position is hybrid to Fairfax, VA. The Controller provides senior‑level financial leadership for the organization, overseeing all accounting operations and ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and compliance of financial reporting within a government contracting environment. This role is responsible for internal controls, audit readiness, financial strategy execution, and advising executive leadership while maintaining hands‑on oversight of complex accounting functions.
Roles and Responsibilities:- Oversee full‑cycle accounting operations, including AP, AR, payroll, expense reporting, and general ledger.
- Lead
monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including financial statements, reconciliations, and analyses. - Configure and manage Deltek Costpoint structures (orgs, segments, projects, accounts, PLCs, and charge codes) aligned with contract SOWs and modifications.
- Oversee client invoicing, indirect expense pools, rate structures, and variance analyses.
- Develop and monitor
annual budgets and rolling forecasts, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives. - Establish and maintain strong internal controls and ensure ongoing compliance with GAAP, FAR, CAS, and DCAA.
- Lead DCAA audit readiness, responses, and ongoing compliance initiatives.
- Drive automation, standardization, and continuous improvement across accounting and billing processes.
- Manage external financial audits and coordinate responses with auditors and stakeholders.
- Oversee tax compliance activities, including filings, payments, and year‑end reporting.
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and performance oversight for accounting staff.
- Serve as a
strategic advisor and business partner to the CFO and executive leadership.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
- 8+ years of progressive accounting experience within government contracting.
- Expert‑level understanding of GAAP, FAR, CAS, DCAA and federal procurement regulations.
- Strong leadership, management, and supervisory capabilities.
- Proven ability to design, implement, and maintain robust internal control systems.
- Expertise in financial statement preparation, analysis, and executive‑level reporting.
- Strong budgeting, forecasting, and indirect rate management skills.
- High ethical standards and sound professional judgment.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft 365, Deltek Costpoint, and integrated business systems.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and operate effectively in a regulated environment.
