Group Financial Accountant

Overview

A London-based social housing provider is seeking a permanent Group Financial Accountant to strengthen its finance function.

The organisation delivers affordable homes and essential services across its communities, with a strong focus on financial resilience, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement. Finance plays a central role in supporting these objectives, and this position will be key in ensuring high-quality financial reporting and robust financial control.

• Prepare group statutory accounts in line with relevant accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
• Support monthly management reporting, providing clear and accurate financial analysis.
• Ensure compliance with VAT, tax, and other statutory obligations.
• Play an active role in year-end close and external audit processes.
• Review, maintain, and improve financial controls, systems, and processes to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
• Provide technical accounting support and guidance within the finance team.
• Contribute to broader financial reporting, planning, and improvement initiatives as required.

• Proven experience in a financial accounting role, ideally within social housing or another regulated or not-for-profit environment.
• Strong technical accounting knowledge, including UK GAAP and IFRS.
• Experience preparing statutory accounts and supporting external audits.
• The ability to manage multiple deadlines with accuracy and attention to detail.
• Strong communication skills and confidence working with internal and external stakeholders.
• A recognised accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent).
• A proactive approach with a clear interest in improving processes, systems, and controls.
• Experience supporting finance system improvements or enhancements would be beneficial.
