About

the Role

Support the District’s Finance Bureau managing multiple tasks and priorities in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented environment. As part of the Finance Bureau team, the Accountant will ensure that financial obligations are met in accordance with board‑approved agreements and Florida State Statutes. Using a web‑based automated financial system, the successful candidate will process payments, encumber funds, audit financial documentation, collaborate with accounts receivable staff on revenue agreements, and provide training to project managers.

This position is hybrid: the employee is required to come on‑site for periodic meetings and a minimum of three days per week. Remote work is possible for a portion of time (must live in Florida). Starting Compensation

$46,034.98 – $58,656.00. The starting salary range is based on education and experience, and may be increased through annual performance evaluations.

Essential Functions
  • Oversee and process financial disbursements related to complex contracts and purchase orders for assigned vendors.
  • Utilize a web‑based automated financial system to encumber funds, initiate payments via payment vouchers or purchasing cards, and manage year‑end accruals and retainage tracking.
  • Audit supporting documentation as outlined in contracts or purchase orders to verify accuracy and adherence to established policies and procedures.
  • Record, modify, and liquidate District contractual encumbrances based on approved documents, available budgeted funds, and authorized board minutes.
  • Collaborate with accounts receivable to manage expenditures associated with revenue contracts, including tracking payments, encumbrances, and liquidations, and providing documentation for billing external agencies.
  • Compile and report financial data, develop and maintain spreadsheets to monitor expenditures, and ensure accurate documentation for internal and external audits.
  • Develop training materials and presentations, revise forms related to fund disbursement, and coordinate training sessions for Project Managers to ensure consistent understanding of financial procedures.

Employee works in a standard office environment. Occasional travel during the workday is required. Performs continuous repetitive tasks (including keyboarding) with one or both hands. Occasionally lifts and carries objects up to 10 pounds, bends, reaches above shoulder level, and may spend time in remote areas or travel to other offices.
