Role Overview

We are seeking to recruit an experienced and proactive Credit Controller to support the Credit Control Manager in ensuring timely collection of outstanding debts and maintaining strong relationships with clients and other stakeholders. This role reports to the Credit Control Manager and its primary function is to maximise cash collections whilst minimising the level of debts and write‑offs across the firm.

It will give you the opportunity to work with a varied portfolio of clients and will present different challenges on a day‑to‑day basis.

You will work closely with the Senior Finance Business Partners and Fee Earners and build strong working relationships with the credit control team, within finance and the wider firm, and our clients. You will be a key support in communicating our expectations to pay both internally and externally. You will be part of a dynamic, target focused group of credit controllers.

You will be flexible and proactive and strive to ensure the team works as a whole to hit monthly cash collection targets.

Key Responsibilities
  • Proactively manage a portfolio of customer accounts to ensure timely payment of invoices
  • Exceed personal cash collection target every month
  • Monitor and chase overdue payments, primarily via phone.
  • Resolve customer queries and disputes efficiently, escalating promptly.
  • Proactively build trusting relationships with internal and external clients
  • You are expected to be able to adapt your approach to each client as required to maximise cash collection
  • Maintain accurate records of all credit control activity
  • Manage your portfolio of clients effectively and efficiently using ABCD reporting
  • Work together and work flexibly as a team to ensure all cash collection targets are met, supporting the need to re‑direct resource to challenging areas
  • Support month‑end and year‑end financial processes as required.
  • Help with additional projects as and when required
What Are We Looking For

Important criteria:

  • Proven experience in a credit control role.
  • Strong communication and relationship skills.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Strong organisational and problem‑solving skills.
  • Flexible and proactive individual with positive attitude to change

It would be beneficial for you to have the following:

  • Professional qualification in credit management (e.g., CICM) is highly desirable
