Your RoleThe State Income Tax Manager will provide a variety of tax consulting, planning, and compliance services to a diverse range of clients operating in various sectors. You will oversee state-level tax projects, including compliance and related research, and lead a team in managing state tax compliance and advisory services for clients.
Responsibilities- Manage and execute state income tax compliance responsibilities.
- Monitor and analyze changes in state income tax laws and regulations and determine impact to the client.
- Provide complex tax review, research, planning and consulting services to diverse clients, including federal and state tax regulations.
- Lead or assist with various tax planning, research, and special projects.
- Prepare and review quarterly and annual state income tax provisions.
- Model state income tax benefits and consequences using Microsoft Excel, Power
BI or Alteryx. - Write tax technical memos to articulate issues, conclusions, and analyses related to state tax issues.
- Develop and work with staff to create a collaborative team environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related discipline; approximately six years of related work experience.
- High proficiency in state income tax codes, regulations, and procedures.
- Proven track record in a professional services or tax organization.
- Technical writing and research experience in a tax context.
- Ability to analyze client data and provide guidance to engagement teams.
- Ability to prioritize multiple complex projects and strong influencing skills.
- Willingness to travel as needed and to work in a balanced hybrid environment.
- CPA qualification (achieved or partially achieved), certification from the Institute for Professionals in Taxation, or eligibility to sit for/state bar membership.
