Join the Southwest Power Pool (SPP) Market Monitoring Unit (MMU), which plays a crucial role in maintaining the integrity and reliability of SPP's wholesale electricity market across 14 states. The MMU operates independently to provide objective analysis, reporting, and recommendations on market design, operation, and related rules, while safeguarding against market power abuse, manipulation, and gaming of market rules. The MMU engages with stakeholders, regulatory staff, and market participants to ensure market activities are fair, transparent, and compliant with regulatory requirements.
Compensationand Benefits
- Lead Market Monitor Pay Range: $ - $
- Senior Market Monitor & II Pay Range: $95,200.00 - $
- Market Monitor II Pay Range: $76,000.00 - $96,900.00

- Market Analysis:
Perform in-depth analysis on existing and new market products, activities, or events. - Rule Change Review:
Review proposed rule changes, conduct analyses, and provide impact opinions. - Presentations & Reports:
Prepare and present MMU analyses and opinions at stakeholder meetings. - Formal Documentation:
Write formal comments on proposed rule changes, MMU recommendations, and FERC filings. - Data Monitoring:
Analyze market data to identify potential market power abuse, manipulation, and gaming; support ad hoc analysis and routine reports. - Special Projects:
Lead and contribute to special projects of varying scope and length. - Team
Collaboration:
Work within a multi-disciplinary team to develop metrics, analysis, reports, and responses to inquiries. - On-Call Responsibility:
Participate in rotating on-call duties for real-time operations monitoring.
- Engage with internal departments, senior management, regulatory staff, and market participants while maintaining MMU independence.
- Support committees, working groups, and external members as part of market monitoring obligations.
- Manage individual work effort while supporting team efforts and contributing to new analyses as you progress.
- Bachelor’s degree in economics, math, computer science, information technology, engineering, or related field; three years of related experience may be considered in lieu of education.
- Lead Market Monitor:
Ten years of experience in market monitoring, power marketing, RTO operations, economic or data analysis; advanced degree may be considered toward experience. - Senior Market Monitor II:
Eight years of related experience; advanced degree may be considered toward experience. - Senior Market Monitor:
Five years of related experience; advanced degree may be considered toward experience. - Market Monitor II:
Three years of related experience; advanced degree may be considered toward experience.
This job operates in a professional office environment. Typical hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Central Time, with the possibility of extended hours as needed. Travel is minimal (approximately 10%).
