From sales and margin to operations and expenses, our Finance team provides consistent, accurate information to cross-functional partners to support Pet Smart's growth initiatives.

About the Location

In a standard work week, associates may work up to one remote “flex day” (with leader approval). About

The Job

Pet Smart is seeking an Indirect Tax Manager, to manage sales and use tax audits and compliance. This is a critical position in the tax department at a multinational company with a variety of complex tax matters.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage sales tax audits: coordinate auditor requests, review work papers, and ensure timely completion. Follow up on findings to reduce exposure.
  • Act as primary liaison for external filing team handling 4,000+ annual filings (sales/use tax, HST/GST/PST, and other miscellaneous filings). Prepare source documents and review filings for accuracy and timeliness.
  • Oversee tax exemption certificate process.
  • Mentor and develop team members.
  • Collaborate across departments to identify tax issues, research solutions, and document findings to minimize tax obligations.
  • Support accounting and finance activities including journal entries, reconciliations, forecasts, and budgets.
  • Partner with external tax advisors, auditors, and tax authorities.
  • Contribute to special projects as needed.
Desired requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 3+ years of indirect tax experience, preferably in retail.
  • Strong business and accounting knowledge.
  • High technical proficiency; ability to learn and optimize systems and processes. SAP, Alteryx and/or Avalara experience a plus.
  • Adaptability and willingness to take on diverse tasks.
