Distribution Risk Specialist – SMBC Group

Role Description

The Distribution Risk Group (DRG) seeks a Vice President to manage loan and bond underwriting risk and CLO warehouse financing. Responsibilities include supporting senior team members in underwriting analysis and monitoring market trends. The role also involves preparing presentations for management committees and collaborating with capital markets teams.

Responsibilities
  • Assist senior team members in evaluating distribution risk for loan, bond, and CLO financing, assessing issuer credit quality, deal structure, and risk mitigants.
  • Monitor trends in new issuances and secondary markets to gauge changes in risk.
  • Assess existing CLO warehouse loan portfolio impacts.
  • Collaborate with loan and bond capital markets teams on syndication processes.
  • Enhance communication to senior management regarding syndication pipeline and market conditions.
  • Engage with groups to apply distribution activity insights for exposure management.
  • Mentor junior team members.
Qualifications and Skills
  • At least 5 years in corporate banking, debt capital markets, or CLO structuring.
  • Strong knowledge of loan and corporate bond markets.
  • Sound credit analysis and quantitative skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation skills.
  • Ability to work across functions and adapt to market changes.
  • Experience delivering high‑quality analysis under tight timelines.
Education
  • BA/BS (required). MA/MS/MBA/CFA preferred.
Work Model
