As a member of our newly established Attendance Monitoring Service, you’ll support and work within a proactive, data-driven team to support school attendance across Somerset and ensure children have access to the education to which they’re entitled.

You will also work closely with other Council services and schools, building relationships, solving problems and making a difference to children’s lives every day.

Day‑to‑day responsibilities
  • Reviewing and responding to school enquiries and providing advice
  • Conducting enquiries relating to children missing from education
  • Assessing removal from roll notifications to determine possible risk factors
  • Working directly with support services, schools, other local authorities and national agencies
  • Processing penalty notice requests and Police Safeguarding notifications

Supporting the team in its continuous innovation and development of processes and systems
What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?

We offer ongoing support, training and guidance to help you be the best you can be. But it will really help if you:

  • Are educated to GCSE level, or NVQ Level 2 including English and Maths, grade C/4 or above.
  • Can work flexibly to support other team members.
  • Have experience of gathering and collating information.
  • Can prioritise conflicting work demands, make decisions and produce highly accurate work.
  • Have relevant experience working in an office environment, with excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent IT knowledge of systems including Microsoft Suite programmes.

We’re proud to be here for the people of Somerset. And that means everyone in Somerset. An important part of this is ensuring that we are as diverse and inclusive as the people and communities we serve.

We welcome applications from a diverse range of backgrounds and experiences to enrich our team. You can always contact the hiring manager for a chat if there’s anything you want to talk about before you apply.
