Senior Process Engineer – Welding & Medical Device Manufacturing
Overview
We are seeking a Senior Process Engineer to support New Product Introduction (NPI) for advanced Class III implantable medical devices. This role is highly focused on precision welding processes, including microscale hermetic welding and feed through integration, within cleanroom manufacturing environments.
The ideal candidate brings deep experience in medical device manufacturing, welding process development, and statistical process optimization, and will play a critical role in transferring innovative manufacturing processes from development into scalable production.
Key Responsibilities
Process Development & NPI
- Develop, characterize, document, and implement precision assembly and welding processes for implantable and external medical device components.
- Lead process development for microscale hermetic welds, feed through integration, and cleanroom-compatible manufacturing operations.
- Transition processes from R&D development through pilot builds into full-scale manufacturing.
- Design and implement manufacturing processes, tooling, and fixtures for new products and product enhancements.
Welding & Advanced Manufacturing
- Develop and implement laser welding, resistance welding, and related joining technologies for medical device components.
- Ensure welding processes meet requirements for sterilization compatibility, biocompatibility, cleanliness, packaging, and regulatory compliance.
- Support automated manufacturing processes including motion control, fluid dispensing, and machine vision inspection systems.
Process Optimization & Data Analysis
- Conduct Design of Experiments (DOE) to optimize parameters such as laser power, speed, shielding gas, and joint geometry.
- Analyze manufacturing data to assess process capability (Cp/Cpk), yield, leak rates, reliability, and traceability.
- Apply statistical process control (SPC) and Six Sigma methodologies to improve process stability and reduce variation.
Manufacturing Support
- Support prototype and pilot builds, ensuring accurate documentation including:
- Manufacturing procedures
- Materials records
- Process validation documentation
- Troubleshoot complex design, materials, and manufacturing issues impacting production of Class III implantable devices.
- Provide technical training and documentation for manufacturing teams.
- Provide occasional support for legacy welding processes affecting production (
