A growing energy and infrastructure services firm based in DC is seeking a Commissioning Engineer to support new construction and retrofit commissioning projects across complex facilities. This role partners closely with project managers, contractors, and design teams to ensure building systems operate according to design intent and performance goals.
The position offers the opportunity to work on large-scale sustainability and infrastructure modernization projects across government, healthcare, and education sectors while helping optimize building performance and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities- Assist with commissioning activities on new construction and retrofit projects.
- Develop functional testing plans and support on-site testing activities.
- Review design drawings, specifications, and product submittals to confirm alignment with project requirements.
- Analyze field data and system performance to identify issues and support troubleshooting.
- Prepare reports summarizing commissioning findings and recommendations.
- Participate in commissioning coordination meetings with clients, contractors, and design teams.
- Witness equipment startup and system testing.
- Identify and document operational or installation issues during field reviews.
- Inspect mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems including rooftop or hard-to-access equipment locations.
- Coordinate with project managers, subcontractors, engineers, and facility personnel.
- Communicate findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Support proposal development, project interviews, and other business development efforts as needed.
- Associate’s, Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field (or equivalent military experience).
- 4+ years of experience in commissioning, building automation systems, or related fields such as MEP engineering, controls programming, or construction coordination.
- Commissioning certification (ASHRAE, BCA, or ACG) or willingness to obtain one.
- Experience analyzing trended building system data and troubleshooting technical issues.
- Knowledge of HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Experience with Bluebeam, Visio, or data analysis tools such as VBA or other programming languages.
- Ability to pass background checks and drug screening as required by project sites.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in active construction environments, including rooftops and confined spaces.
This role includes a mix of office-based engineering work, remote work (1–2 days per week), and field commissioning activities at construction sites and operational facilities. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, technically curious, and comfortable working independently while collaborating across multidisciplinary project teams.
