Position: Mechanical Engineering Intern (Spring 2026 Semester)

Hours: 8hrs / 1-2 day commitment in office at Milford, CT HQ, preferably onsite on Mondays.

Start Date: Q1 2026/Spring Semester

Opportunity for Full-Time Conversion: This internship is intended for a student who is not currently committed to a full-time role elsewhere in the summer. The role is expected to run the spring semester and into early summer, with a significant opportunity to transition into a full-time position post-graduation if there is a strong mutual fit.

Sed Med is a medical device company operating across direct-to-consumer and acute healthcare channels, including hospitals, rehab centers, and senior living communities. We’re building both a product and a brand that supports patients, residents, caregivers, and healthcare workers.

Through innovative product solutions, we aim to enhance the quality of life for our customers and users. Our primary product is the Sed Med Toilet Lift Assist, a hydraulic toilet lift that mounts directly onto the toilet and assists individuals with getting on and off the toilet. Sed Med is designed to support older adults, people with mobility challenges, and patients in rehabilitation while reducing the risk and strain on caregivers who assist them.

Engineering Internship

The Mechanical Engineering internship will support the design, testing, installation, and servicing of assistive medical devices that improve mobility and independence for older adults. This internship offers hands‑on exposure across the full product lifecycle, from customer discovery and engineering design to manufacturing, patents, and real-world deployment, through a mix of onsite work and field visits to eldercare and rehabilitation facilities.

As Sed Med grows, this role will grow as well. This role is ideal for a current student who is not immediately starting a full‑time role after graduation and is interested in potentially transitioning into a full-time position post-graduation.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in building, testing, and servicing Sed Med products in the office.
  • Assist with the design process for product improvements and accessories
  • Visit eldercare facilities and rehab hospitals to install Sed Med Toilet Lifts and learn about our customers
  • Meet with Sed Med advisers, customers, and end‑users to gather insights on customer needs for future products and feedback on existing products.
  • Collaborate with engineers and advisers to assist in the design process.
  • Learn about the patent writing process and participate in meetings with patent lawyers.
  • Participate in discussions with manufacturers to understand the manufacturing process.
  • Build, install, and service products in the field.
About You
  • Currently enrolled in a college-level or graduate-level mechanical engineering program.
  • Passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of individuals with mobility impairments.
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical design principles and fabrication techniques.
  • Ability to come onsite to Milford, CT office for 1-2 days a week for at least 8 hours total per week with additional remote work opportunities
