Location:
Norwich (hybrid working; 2–3 days per week office‑based)

To support the commercial and cost management of projects from inception through to close‑out, Balfour Beatty is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Assistant Quantity Surveyor (AQS) to join us on the @One Alliance.

What you'll be doingAs an Assistant Quantity Surveyor
, you will act as the commercial conscience of the integrated delivery team, providing commercial support to both project management and site‑based delivery teams. Embracing the @One Alliance out performance mindset, you’ll support cost control activities, maximise value, minimise future liabilities, and help ensure delivery to the required standards of quality and safety.
Alongside this, you’ll continue to develop your commercial and interpersonal skills, gaining hands‑on experience within a fast‑paced and collaborative project environment.
Key Responsibilities- Support the estimating team in producing robust cost estimates aligned to scope, including risk and opportunity allowances
- Assist with data transfer into the Alliance Procurement system and cost base
- Work closely with the Cost Manager, Procurement, Construction Manager and Project Delivery Manager to support subcontract preparation and procurement strategies
- Produce and maintain accurate cost forecasts aligned to programme and WBS/CBS structures
- Monitor actual costs against baseline, value of work done and final outturn forecasts
- Support cost reporting, variance analysis and resolution of cost challenges
- Assist in ensuring project teams understand contractual arrangements and client requirements
- Maintain accurate commercial records to support audits and cost assurance
About You
- Studying towards, or recently completed, a degree (or equivalent) in a commercial, engineering, management or cost‑related discipline
- Passionate about developing a career in a commercial or quantity surveying role
- Strong IT skills, particularly in Excel
- Confident communicator, able to work with a range of stakeholders
- Well organised, proactive and keen to learn
- A collaborative team player with a positive, professional attitude
