Position Overview

We are seeking an Electrical Distribution Engineer to join our Distribution Design Department. Under the general direction of the Customer Service Design Engineer, the Electrical Distribution Engineer is responsible for working with a team of highly skilled technical staff and consultants to design overhead and underground residential and commercial electrical distribution systems within the City of Winnipeg Region for 66kV and below.

The Electrical Distribution Engineer will be responsible for the review and sealing of design drawings and collaborating with internal and external customers to ensure customer needs are met in a safe and cost-effective manner.

Responsibilities
  • Provide engineering design support and project management for overhead and underground residential, commercial, and street lighting projects within the City of Winnipeg area, including all additions and modifications to ensure that safety, compliance with standards, and cost efficiency are met.
  • Design, review, assume professional responsibility of, as well as supervise the preparation of work order packages (construction drawings, bills of materials and cost estimates) for distribution design projects, including monitoring and reporting on project scheduling.
  • Work closely with customers and business representatives to ensure customer needs are met from a technical perspective.
  • Develop and participate in process improvement initiatives related to distribution design.
  • Represent the department in dealings with other Hydro groups, as well as other utilities, government departments and municipalities concerning technical and process requirements.
  • Ensure that recommendations contained in planning and protection reports and memos are implemented in work orders issued from the section.
  • Perform field checks and review completed as-built work orders for technical compliance.
  • Review subdivision plans to secure easements for Manitoba Hydro infrastructure.
Qualifications
  • Graduate in Engineering from a recognized University with a minimum of six years of related experience and a broad knowledge of electrical distribution systems. Preference will be for candidates with Electrical Engineering, however consideration will be given to other disciplines as noted. Consideration may also be given to candidates who have less than six years of related experience.
  • Professional member in good standing with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (or willingness and ability to attain within a specified amount of time).
  • Demonstrated ability in report writing and in preparing and making oral presentations.
  • Demonstrated comprehensive knowledge of both Corporate and Industry Standards in the field of electrical utility distribution system and comprehensive knowledge in Underground Residential Distribution.
  • Capable of devising new methods or modifying standard principles or practices to new or changing conditions.
  • Good knowledge of Corporation policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Display initiative in handling involved and adverse technical problems.
  • Possess a valid Province of Manitoba Driver's Licence.
Salary Range

Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $48.74-$67.29 Hourly, $93,398.24-$ Annually.
