Felsburg Holt & Ullevig is looking to hire a full-time transportation design engineer in our Greenwood Village office. This mid‑level engineer will work on a wide range of transportation‑related design projects and collaborate with various project managers across our Mountain West Civil Group.

Primary duties for this mid‑level engineer focus on transportation design and plan production for multimodal transportation corridors, roadways, highway/interchanges, and multi‑use trail projects for private, state, and municipal clients. The role emphasizes application of transportation modeling software, leading or managing roadway design for small to mid‑size projects, coordinating roadway design with other disciplines, mentoring junior engineers, and overseeing the compilation of construction contract documents for overall projects.

Long‑term career emphasis will include leading or managing roadway design for larger projects and providing guidance and training to junior engineers in roadway modeling and other design software.

Responsibilities
  • Develop trail/roadway/intersection/interchange design criteria for both final design and construction phasing using appropriate federal, state, or municipal standards.
  • Complete conceptual design layouts considering horizontal and vertical design for trails, roadways, highways, intersections, interchanges, etc.
  • Develop conceptual design graphics and exhibits for planning documentation.
  • Provide input for environmental study limits and potential historical resource impacts.
  • Assist the project manager in determining data collection limits for survey, subsurface utility engineering, and geotechnical investigations, and coordinate data collection efforts.
  • As the primary transportation design modeler, use CAD engineering software (Civil3D and/or Micro Station/InRoads & Open Roads) for design and modeling.
  • As roadway design lead, coordinate design elements with other disciplines and handle environmental resource avoidance or mitigation, possibly coordinating with sub‑consultants.
  • Oversee junior engineers’ work in producing roadway construction contract documents and compiling overall plan sets.
  • Assist with writing project special provisions and assembling specification packages.
  • Maintain organized electronic records of roadway‑related action items, design decisions, variances, and correspondence.
  • Determine required right‑of‑way acquisition, permanent easements, and temporary construction easements in coordination with other specialties.
  • Oversee roadway quantity calculations by junior engineers or designers.
  • Develop overall project cost estimates using current construction cost data and input from other specialties.
  • Prepare agendas, exhibits, and minutes for project‑related meetings.
  • Assist in following FHU’s Total Quality Management Program for roadway design.
  • Help meet project schedules and budgets for roadway design tasks.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Civil Engineering from an accredited four‑year college or university.
  • 5 to 10 years of transportation engineering experience (roadway, highway, interchange, trail and/or transit design).
  • Licensed professional engineer in the State of Colorado (or required to obtain a CO PE license within six months of start).
  • Experience with Civil3D and/or Micro Station/InRoads/Open Roads for modeling, design, and plan production.
  • Experience developing roadway plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Ability to multi‑task several projects simultaneously while staying on budget and schedule.
  • Experience preparing technical reports and business correspondence with Microsoft Office.

The pay range for this position is $90,000 – $115,000 annually. The actual offer will consider a range of factors, including skills, qualifications, and experience.

Final date to receive applications:
April 6, 2026
