Position Overview
We are actively looking for an experienced Estimator, to lead estimates, work with our preconstruction and construction teams, supporting a variety of Infrastructure self-performed projects. This division of Kiewit executes hands‑on construction in the infrastructure market performing mass grading/excavation, drainage, paving, utility work, earthwork, site development, concrete, asphalt for large scale highway/bridge projects, aviation projects, rail/transit, reservoirs, and heavy water/wastewater. If you have 5+ years in estimating for Design Build/Engineering Procuring Construction (EPC) projects in the infrastructure market, we would love to talk with you!
In this role, you will be responsible for reviewing, analyzing and interpreting Contract Documents (specifications, drawings, and reference information) to develop detailed, comprehensive cost estimates for various projects, as well as support pre‑construction initiatives with cost estimation, budget development, quantity takeoffs, bid preparation and risk analysis.

Kiewit’s Central District is one of our largest infrastructure districts specializing in heavy civil, structural concrete/bridge, water/wastewater, and transportation projects. We self‑perform work such as mass grading, drainage, paving, underground piping, underground utility infrastructure, and more - so be ready to get your hands dirty! While headquartered in Denver, Colorado, the majority of our work is concentrated in the Central and South‑Central regions of the United States.

This position will be located for the Kansas City metro area, in our Lenexa Kansas Area office.
Responsibilities- Develop and lead complete estimates and quantity/material takeoffs for self‑performed construction scopes of work for design/build, design/bid/build and EPC projects for infrastructure projects (Heavy Civil, Highway, Bridge, Rail/Transit, Utilities, Drainage, Aviation and Infrastructure portions of power plants)
- Review owner plans and specifications to develop a comprehensive understanding of the project; develop plan for the actual construction to serve as basis for the estimate.
- Review and assist with proposals and other documentation to prepare cost estimates. Review all bid and contract documents and home office legal department opinions.
- Conduct site investigation prior to forming a plan of operations to identify any problems or conditions of an unusual nature that may be present.
- Participate in constructability reviews, collaborate with project managers, design engineers, superintendents, clients and other Kiewit districts to align expectations, phasing and scheduling of the work to ensure accuracy within the estimate.
- Stay abreast of trends and developments, such as new equipment, methods and procedures that are developing in the industry.
