About the RoleThe Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS) is looking for a full time Mechanical Engineer-NH-0830-03 to work at Buckley Space Force Base, Colorado. You will serve as a mechanical engineer within the 460th Civil Engineer Squadron, at Buckley Space Force Base, Colorado. The Incumbent will serve as a professional mechanical engineer, performing design and construction management duties in support of a military installation or complex.
Responsibilities- Leads all aspects of project management in a variety of disciplines and technical capacities on larger more complex multi-phase projects.
- The Incumbent provides mechanical engineering design and technical skills in the performance of project management functions of the Engineering Flight at Buckley Space Force Base, Colorado.
- Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military and commercial aircraft
- Professional registration or license as a Professional Engineer or Registered Architect in one of the 50 states or territories is desired but not required
- The work requires the employee to access facilities and infrastructure which may require climbing on, crawling under or extensive walking at construction sites, hard hat areas or other base areas
- Incumbent is required to file an OGE Form 450, Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, upon appointment and will be required to file annually
- This is a testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random drug testing.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Security Clearance.
- Professional knowledge of mechanical engineering concepts, principles, and practices and familiarity with architectural and other engineering disciplines.
- Knowledge of a broad range of engineering and construction standards, methods, practices, and techniques, materials, and equipment to determine compliance with federal, state, and local codes and regulations; of standard contracting regulations, practices, and procedures as it relates to facilities engineering; knowledge of health, safety, and environmental requirements as outlined in applicable standards, regulations, and/or technical orders; of environmental principles, practices, procedures, laws, regulations, and current legislative issues;
of work classifications and the regulatory and statutory restrictions on the expenditures of appropriated and non-appropriated funds. - Knowledge of automated data processing concepts, systems capabilities, and economic usage to effectively accomplish assigned functions; and knowledge of program planning and budgeting cycles, financial control and budget systems and management.
- Knowledge of aesthetic and functional design techniques and skill in preparing project documentation, to include preliminary drawings, sketches, and construction drawings; and technique / skill in drafting sufficient to convey design concepts and ideas and formulate working drawings.
- Ability to plan, conduct and record site/facilities surveys and inspections.
- Ability to research, analyze, interpret, and apply rules, regulations, and procedures in a variety of situations and recommend timely and economical solutions.
- Ability to plan and organize work and coordinate with other engineering disciplines and architects; and communicate effectively both orally and in writing and maintain good working relationships.

Pay range and compensation packageSalary $76,463 - $ 118,204, does not include locality pay - Position is not eligible for telework or remote work - No travel
