In this position, you will develop comprehensive design documents, including data, specifications, and drawings for construction projects, ensuring compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and established engineering standards. Your work will support both in-house construction initiatives and projects prepared for competitive bidding and contractor awards. You will perform site surveys, gather and analyze relevant data to resolve electrical system and engineering problems, and prepare detailed reports outlining existing conditions, recommended solutions, and preliminary cost estimates.
Responsibilities include coordinating design activities with bureau employees, institutional staff, contracted design professionals, code officials, and other stakeholders. Additionally, you will review plans, specifications, reports, calculations, and cost and budget estimates prepared by retained design professionals, offering recommendations as needed. You will also provide guidance and training to maintenance staff on the troubleshooting, repair, and installation of modern electrical systems and equipment.
Schedule and Additional Information
- Full-time employment, 37.5-hour work week
- Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days per week after the initial 6-month training period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Mechanicsburg.
The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview. - Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Two years of professional electrical engineering experience which required work on any structural electrical system, and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists:
or - One year as an Electrical Engineer 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration);
or - Two years of professional electrical engineering experience which required work on any structural electrical system; and a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
- This position requires possession of a Professional Engineer license issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists.
- This position requires the possession of a valid driver’s license.

- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
- You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
