Summary
This position functions as a geographic information system (GIS) technician within the Municipal Services & Operations (MSO) Department. This includes maintaining a geographic information system (GIS) providing geospatial support for MSO, including creation, maintenance, analysis, and dissemination of geospatial data and associated mapping and informational products.
ResponsibilitiesThe GIS Technician will provide support for MSO in field data collection, updating GIS assets during construction activities, responding to requests for information, maps, records, and other materials from City Staff, contractors, outside agencies, and the general public. Additionally, the incumbent will perform field and office surveying duties, prepare and distribute engineering-related correspondence and reports, and operate various engineering, computer, GPS and peripheral equipment.
QualificationsGraduation from an accredited community college with an associate degree or four-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in GIS, geography, cartography, engineering or closely related discipline. A GIS certificate can be substituted for a specific degree and is an asset. Four years of professional GIS experience may be substituted for education requirements. Graduate hours or a degree are an asset.
The successful candidate must have a valid driver's license and pass a post-offer City physical and drug screen. This position is an on-site position with the potential for some remote work.
