Position Summary
The Substation Physical Engineer will lead the physical design of new substations, supporting major utility clients across the U.S. Responsibilities include developing layouts, schematics, grounding calculations, and compliance with industry standards such as NEC, NESC, IEEE, and ANSI. This position requires strong electrical engineering fundamentals, substation design experience, and a PE license.
Responsibilities
- Design substation physical layouts and prepare general arrangement drawings
- Perform calculations: grounding, AC/DC loading, cable sizing, lighting, bus sizing
- Develop electrical plans, bills of materials, and technical specifications
- Collaborate with project engineers, designers, and utility clients
- Ensure design compliance with applicable codes and client-specific standards
Qualifications
- B.S. in Electrical Engineering required
- PE license required
- 5–8+ years of substation design experience
- Proficient with Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel
- Strong communication and project coordination skills
- Familiarity with substation protection and control is a plus
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $90,000 – $125,000 depending on experience
