What You Will Do
- Design fire alarm systems for Johnson Controls Inc projects, acting as design lead and directing the design team.
- Organize and plan own workload while directing workloads of other design team members, and collaborate with other design teams when required.
- Providing stamped approval of drawings, if license or certification allows.
- Facilitating reviews of initial high‑complexity designs to provide value‑engineered / code‑compliant solutions.
- Coordinating with design team members to prepare detailed technical submissions with schematics and drawings that meet design criteria.
- Overseeing CAD Support Technicians in preparing project submissions for high‑complexity systems including operation drawings and calculations.
- Completing detailed calculations to verify system design meets code and standard requirements.
- Maximizing project load by supervising multiple CAD Support Technicians working on projects simultaneously.
- Participating in pre‑ and post‑project design meetings and attending customer/site coordination meetings as applicable.
- Developing bill of materials to facilitate construction.
- Examining completed submissions with CAD Support Technicians for equipment application, compatibility, and compliance with specifications and scope.
- Providing project support for project managers after orders are received to help maintain or improve project margins.
- Reviewing equipment application, researching outside purchases, and ensuring equipment compatibility.
- Answering questions from customers, contractors, and authorities having jurisdiction as they arise.
- Collaborating with the Project Manager during system commissioning to verify system performance against the design.
- Supporting field technical staff and other design team members with technical support and design inquiries.
- Providing pre‑sales estimate support to the sales and project management teams.
- Mentoring and guiding CAD Support Technicians in completing project deliverables.
- Performing CAD duties on assigned projects if a CAD person is not available.
- Directing, supporting, and reviewing work product provided by CAD Support Technicians.
- Monitoring actual hours to ensure all time is properly coded to projects and stays within originally estimated hours sold on the projects.
- Minimum two years of fire alarm design experience.
- NICET certification required; NICET Level 3 preferred, with a basic understanding of how mechanical systems interface with fire alarm.
- Demonstrated ability in drafting/CAD and computer skills.
- Knowledge of multiple electronic building systems a plus.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Attention to detail.
HIRING SALARY RANGE
: $73,400‑$100,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
