The Assisted Living Engineering Services team helps protect Minnesota’s most vulnerable by enforcing state licensure and physical environment requirements in assisted living facilities.
Working in the Assisted Living Physical Environment Evaluator role, you will:
- Provide construction document reviews, inspections, and surveys for the evaluation of assisted living facilities to ensure the physical environment complies with State laws and rules.
- Provide training and expertise to assisted living professionals to educate them on maintaining facility compliance.
The Assisted Living team serves facilities located throughout the state of Minnesota with 50% of work time spent onsite at designated facilities. When not onsite, the remaining follow-up work is performed by teleworking from your home office.
Position locations will be determined by the top candidates and will be based out of one of the following MDH district office locations:
Rochester, Mankato, Marshall, St. Paul, St. Cloud, Duluth, Fergus Falls or Bemidji.
Travel expenses will be reimbursed according to bargaining unit guidelines.
Minimum QualificationsTo facilitate proper crediting, please ensure that your resume clearly describes your experience in the areas listed and indicates the beginning and ending month and year of each job held.
- Three (3) years of experience with building, fire, or physical environment plan reviews, inspections, surveys, or related experience.
- Knowledge of the MN State Building Code and MN State Fire Code as it relates to the different types of assisted living facilities and the State statute licensure of facilities.
- Knowledge of the 2018 Life Safety Code and FGI Guidelines for Residential Care Facilities.
- Degree (2-year) in engineering, architecture, construction services, drafting or related field.
- Ability to identify deficient design and construction items and provide solutions.
- Experience with current survey processes at the Minnesota Department of Health.
- Previous experience with quality improvement activities.
- Ability to be mobile on rough and unfinished topography to access all areas of construction.
- Ability to ascend and descend ladders and stairwells to access mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Ability to position self to move through and inspect various components of the architectural, mechanical, and electrical system of the building.
- This position requires successful completion of a background check and an employment reference check.
- This employment does not require a valid driver’s license, but it does demand travel, which the candidate will be responsible for meeting.
