Overview
Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee. This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union.

Employees who are hired or rehired to any position shall be placed at the entrance pay step, and advancement from the entrance step to the maximum step within a pay grade shall be by successive steps.
Remote work schedule opportunities (telecommuting) may be considered after successful completion of probation, at the discretion of management and with the approval of the department head. Not all positions are eligible for remote work (telecommuting) per P&P 40-40.

Responsibilities- Inspection of capital construction projects for conformance to plans and contract, documentation/verification of pay quantities, production of as-built drawings, establishment of record documentation at project completion, and review/comment of upcoming project plans and specifications.
- Assist and communicate directly with contractors and engineers to resolve construction design related issues.
- During project construction, meet with various municipal and private utilities and coordinate with them to ensure the project does not negatively impact the utility.
- Meet with impacted property owners to explain what is being done and address any potential impacts to their properties.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and five (5) years of experience in one or more of the following fields: drafting, surveying, inspection, materials testing, plan review, permitting, computerized mapping, computer assisted design (CAD), traffic signal control, and/or code enforcement, and at least one (1) year of which must have been at the Engineering Technician II level with Municipality or equivalent elsewhere.
- OR Associate’s degree in Engineering, Geomatics, Construction Management, Computer Assisted Design (CAD), or a discipline specific to the department and three (3) years of related experience in one or more of the listed fields, with at least one (1) year at the Engineering Technician II level.
- OR Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Geomatics, Construction Management, or a discipline specific to the department and one (1) year of experience at the Engineering Technician II level with the Municipality or the equivalent elsewhere.
- Satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history at time of hire.
- Valid State of Alaska Driver’s License and satisfactory Driving Record at time of hire.
- Preference will be given to Anchorage Municipal Employees Association (AMEA) employees. AMEA employees who are successful in the screening process will be forwarded to the department for consideration prior to any non-AMEA applicants.
