Transmission Engineering Manager

GAI is seeking a Transmission Engineering Manager 1 to join our Power Delivery team in the role of Program Engineering Manager. This position will report to the Transmission Line Group Manager in our Power Delivery Engineering Business Sector in GAI's Power Business Unit. Required skills include transmission line design experience, critical thinking, problem solving, organization, team-focus, and eagerness to apply learned engineering principles to solve real life problems.

This position combines technical leadership in transmission line design with advisory responsibilities to support a program through all phases of project development and execution. The ideal candidate will have experience in high-voltage transmission line engineering and design, and strong problem‑solving skills. This individual should be technically focused and a strong leader with developed technical, communication, and computer skills. This position will work collaboratively with the Manager of Project Management for this program.

The Transmission Engineering Manager 1 will have 12+ reports and be responsible for $5,000,000+ annual revenue.

• Knowledge of electric utility transmission line engineering and design.
• Knowledge of project management skills and uses of intermediate practices to increase productivity, efficiency, and accuracy. May serve as PM Coach to Task Managers and other PMs.

• Complete day-to-day project tasks as required for successful project delivery. Tasks may include:
  • Preparation of Specification Packages
  • Preparation of Structural and Fabrication Drawings
  • Design and Analysis of Transmission Lines using PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and PLS-Tower
  • Design and Analysis of foundations.
  • Analysis of existing and proposed structures with regard to Client and Other required codes, standards, and specifications.
  • Performance of Electrical Clearance checks and calculations.
  • Coordination and development of permits for Railroads, Roadways, and Environmental Crossings.
• Apply engineering principles to assist in the design of Power Delivery Projects.

• Establish and refine engineering processes and standard operating procedures that enhance team performance, alignment, and delivery predictability.

• Applies thorough knowledge of current principles and practices of engineering related to the variety of aspects affecting their organization.
• Applies progressively acquired expertise to resolve crucial issues and/or unique conditions.
• Keeps informed of new methods and developments affecting their practice and recommends new practices or changes in emphasis of projects.

• Analyzes complex problems across specialty areas appropriate to the practice of engineering.

• 12+ Years of Experience

• B.S. or M.S. Engineering

• Professional Engineer (P.E.) License, reciprocity in multiple states.

• Frequently serves as the technical advisor in the application of advanced concepts and methods in an assigned area.
• Keeps informed of new developments and requirements affecting the practice for the purpose of recommending changes in projects or applications.
• Frequently develops new techniques and/or improved processes, materials, or products.
• Values and analyzes sustainable performance of complex engineering projects from a systems perspective.

• Oversees a project team of engineers and technicians.
• Plans, schedules, and coordinates the preparation of documents or activities for multiple major projects.
• Analyzes project management plans for complex engineering projects.
• Understands project delivery uncertainties and uses risk management principles to address them.
• Reviews operational procedures to ensure compliance with applicable policies and performance measures.

• Supervises a staff of engineers and technicians.
• Receives administrative supervision with assignments given in terms of broad general objectives and limits.
