What Your Job Will Be LikeWe are seeking a R&D S&E Electrical Engineer who will conduct flight test design, analysis, integration and testing operations, with a particular focus on experimental technology integration and data collection. The role supports fielding and flight test operations directly, and also supports systems integration and testing of flight vehicles and sub‑systems/components servicing a wide array of complex and cutting‑edge experiments and technologies.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
- Design avionics and electrical ground support equipment related to rocket and other flight test activities.
- Conduct analysis of avionics and telemetry systems intended for dynamic flight operations.
- Conduct trade studies and support advanced technology development.
- Conduct assembly and test operations, including those with integrated systems hazards and ordnance devices.
- Conduct remote fielding operations and flight tests, including tests involving controlled ordnance and other hazards.
- Operate within a dynamic, team‑focused environment, including multidisciplinary tasks and small team leadership.
- Coordinate with external industry partners, government sponsors, and other government agency teammates towards nationwide flight test collaborative efforts.
- Due to the nature of the role, this candidate must be able to work onsite and support moderate travel (up to 20%).
$117,500 – $235,700
* Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We RequireA Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and five (5) years of directly relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development.
Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q level security clearance.
Qualifications We DesireThe ideal Electrical Engineer candidate for Sandia National Laboratories will in addition possess:
- Graduate degree in Electrical Engineering or a highly related field where an independent research project was a graduation requirement (e.g., independent project, thesis, or dissertation).
- Ability to work independently and collaborate well in a multidisciplinary team of designers and test engineers.
- Outstanding verbal and written skills, including the ability to develop and present briefings that are clear and compelling.
- Masters degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or STEM related field.
- 3 or more years in electrical & avionics systems design, analysis, qualification, acceptance, integration and testing of flight systems or components.
- Willingness to work around ordnance systems and other controlled hazards.
- Experience in electronic design tools (e.g., PSPICE).
- Experience with avionics component development and testing.
- Ground or flight testing experience.
- Electronic systems and subsystems testing and troubleshooting experience.
- Embedded systems development.
- Ground support systems development and use.
