The Cabin Electronics Product Group is the world’s leading manufacturer of in-seat power systems for the commercial airline industry. The group’s EmPower® product line provides a variety of scalable power solutions for aircraft passenger cabins and flight decks. Our systems are used by over 280 airlines, IFE suppliers, and all major aircraft OEM manufacturers worldwide.
JOB SUMMARYThe Sr. Mechanical Engineer will support successful development of new complex power solutions for aircraft passenger cabins and flight decks. The ideal candidate will provide technical leadership, working on problems of diverse scope in support of new product development, proactively engaging with both internal and external stakeholders to resolve engineering issues efficiently. The key performance objectives for this position are described below.
DUTIES& RESPONSIBILITIES
- Development Engineering Support. The Sr. Mechanical Engineer supports development of new products in the Astronics Cabin Electronics product line. Development tasks consist of innovative conceptual designs, thorough detail design and documentation, structural analysis, thermal analysis, and environmental test support. These efforts require creativity, proficiency in mechanical engineering software tools, hands on testing, problem solving and decision making.
- Develop a cooperative working relationship with internal engineering resources. The Sr. Mechanical Engineer contributes to a collaborative relationship with engineering staff s involves working with other disciplines including systems, electrical, and software engineering, as well as program management. The successful candidate will promote cooperation among team members, provide technical concepts and feedback, and ask questions of experienced staff to develop their own skills.
- Engineering Interface. Astronics AES mechanical engineers work with multiple internal and external customers. Therefore, the ability to communicate effectively is critical. The Sr. Mechanical Engineer will participate and present material in design reviews, generate technical reports, and participate in group discussions and peer reviews.
- Production Support. The Sr. Mechanical Engineer will assist in supporting the ongoing production of Astronics products. This responsibility includes participation in product investigations and mechanical engineering review of design changes or product improvements. This involves understanding the impact of design decisions on technical performance, product quality, schedule and cost.
Education/
Experience:
Requires a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
Five (5) or more years of direct experience in the duties and responsibilities listed above and competency with the skills below:
- Ability to develop innovative product designs from concept to production. This includes initial planning, design, analysis, and documentation of high complexity mechanical designs.
- Experience in printed circuit board packaging and cooling techniques for electronic equipment.
- Experience with CAD modeling and analysis tools;
Solid Works, Flow Simulation structural analysis preferred. - Significant knowledge of multiple fabrication design and manufacturing techniques, including formed sheet metal, machined parts, and injection molding.
