Job Description Summary

Systems engineering is a cross-functional engineering discipline centered on an approach, mindset, and process. All activities consider both the business and the technical needs of the customers with the goal of providing a quality product that meets the users needs. The discipline executes a robust process of design, creation, and optimization of systems, consisting of identification and quantification of system requirements, creation of alternate system design concepts, performance of design trade studies, selection and implementation of the best designs and verification that the design is properly integrated and executed.

Process that proceeds from concept to production to operation. Impacts departmental operations and responsible for planning/execution. The role has some autonomy but is focused on execution of activities within an operating discipline covered by standard functional practices and procedures. Independent judgement is exercised on a regular basis.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Perform preliminary and detailed design of mechanical systems on the BWRX-300 including the steam turbine, turbine auxiliaries, main condenser, condensate, and feedwater systems.
  • Perform mechanical systems design and/or equipment procurement and construction activities, including requirements definition, process calculations and analysis, P&n, model review, vendor and client coordination, review and approval of vendor document submittals, and verification of deliverables produced by other engineers and teams.
  • Support the BWRX-300 certification processes for GE Products to address all US NRC (or other nuclear regulator) design certification requirements.
  • Conducts component and product integration. Participates in all activities that span multiple components, systems, and products and are concerned with how to integrate for maximum performance and operability. Manages product and systems requirements, specifications and flow down. Drives validation and verification activities for the overall product/system, including system level operability and testing. Responsible for defining product requirements for the module / component / subcontractors and partners teams.

    Manages interface between system and execution organizations.
  • Responsible for driving CTQ / Risk trades within the teams designing the components. Manages the overall product configuration and configuration control system.
  • Developing specialized knowledge in their system and discipline. Serves as best practice/quality resource. Has awareness of latest technical developments in own area. Contributes towards strategy and policy development and ensure delivery within area of responsibility.
  • Have other duties as assigned by Manager.
  • Has in-depth knowledge of best practices and how own discipline and system integrates with others; has working knowledge of competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market.
  • Uses judgment to make decisions or solve moderately complex tasks or problems in areas of operational/product management, manufacturing, technology or engineering. Takes new perspective on existing solutions. Uses technical experience and expertise for data analysis to support recommendations. Uses multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own function to arrive at decisions.
  • Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience. May lead small projects with moderate risks and resource requirements. Explains difficult or sensitive information; works to build consensus. Developing persuasion skills required to influence others on topics within field.
  • Interface with internal and external customers, suppliers, partners, licensing, the NRC and international regulatory authorities on technical issues.
  • Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Nuclear Engineering.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in an engineering role, with work in mechanical or process system design.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in nuclear plant modifications, new construction, and/or nuclear fabrication, preferably with BWRs.
