About the role
Balfour Beatty is seeking a capable and driven Site Engineer to join our Power portfolio based in Southampton. This role sits within our Power Transmission & Distribution business, delivering essential energy infrastructure that supports the UK’s transition to a low‑carbon future.
As a Site Engineer, you will play a key role in successful project delivery — from planning and design through to commissioning and handover — ensuring works are delivered safely, sustainably, on programme and within budget.
What you’ll be doing- Managing and delivering allocated work packages to agreed programme and cost
- Interpreting and implementing engineered solutions and technical drawings into site delivery
- Setting teams to work and supervising works to ensure right‑first‑time execution
- Writing and reviewing RAMS and issuing safety documentation
- Maintaining a relentless focus on Zero Harm and promoting a positive safety culture
- Monitoring compliance with H&S legislation, undertaking audits and supporting incident responses
- Managing subcontractors, including progress monitoring and providing direct instruction where required
- Liaising with Project Managers, Construction Managers, Project Engineers and functional leads
- Maintaining accurate site records, daily diaries and preparing internal/external reports
- Supporting procurement planning to ensure materials and resources meet programme requirements
- Monitoring KPIs, contributing to quality assurance activities and continuous improvement initiatives
- Supporting the development and updating of resource‑loaded programmes
- Proven experience as a Site Engineer within power, utilities, construction or civil engineering
- Strong understanding of health, safety and environmental requirements on live sites
- Experience managing subcontractors and coordinating site teams
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and implement engineered solutions
- Experience writing and reviewing RAMS
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage time, cost, quality and safety simultaneously
- Effective communicator, confident liaising with internal teams, supply chain and stakeholders
- A proactive, solutions‑focused mindset with the confidence to elevate risks and issues appropriately
- Relevant engineering qualification (HNC/HND/Degree or equivalent experience)
