HSE Lead Sizewell C

About The Role

Balfour Beatty is looking for a HSE Lead to join our Sizewell C team in Suffolk.

This role will support the Sizewell C team in particular but align with the Balfour Beatty business generally across the UK to drive HSE performance, ensuring efficient and effective service and support levels to meet and where possible exceed operational requirements. To support the HS&E Director in enabling the business to achieve Zero Harm objectives.

• Work with the HS&E Director to develop and ensure the delivery of the Business Unit/Project Zero Harm Strategy. Deputise for the HS&E Director when required.
• Manage the recruitment and development of HS&E professionals within your chain of command, including coaching and mentoring as required.
• Develop professional relationships with regulators, customers, JV partners and supply chain.
• Undertake health and safety compliance evaluations, tours and audits as required and ensure sufficient assurance of project activities.
• In conjunction with Executive General Managers / Managing Directors / Directors, carry out project and business sector HS&E performance reviews and reporting using lagging and leading indicators.
• Review and investigate accidents, incidents and near‑miss events in accordance with Balfour Beatty standards to identify and share lessons learned across the business, ensuring actions are through the serious incident review process.
• Work with the wider BB HS&E team to promote Zero Harm and continuous improvement of performance.
• Innovate and develop ideas to ensure that the business unit and project demonstrate exemplar standards in terms of HSE and ensure that the company is continually improving performance to maintain zero harm.

• Corporate Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (or working towards).
• NEBOSH Diploma or NCRQ qualification.
• Detailed, technical knowledge and experience of Health and Safety legislation, regulations and guidance.
• Construction industry experience (or experience in an equivalent sector) and in particular CDM (where work within a specific construction sector experience is advantageous then specify).
• Prior experience of providing leadership and support to operational and functional teams and of working at a senior level.
