The Land Protection and Mitigation Specialist will work within The Nature Conservancy’s Ohio Stream and Wetland In‑Lieu Fee Mitigation Program (OMP) and collaborate with other OMP staff to secure land for stream and wetland mitigation projects. This may include identifying and resolving title issues; negotiating agreements, conservation easements, and/or environmental covenants with landowners; developing and routing materials for internal and external project review and approval;
ordering and reviewing appraisals, boundary surveys, and environmental site assessments; developing maps using ArcGIS Pro; managing conservation data; and assisting with the production of reports. The Land Protection and Mitigation Specialist may also work on developing baseline documentation reports and conducting easement compliance monitoring.
Another key function of this role is managing mitigation credit reservations and sales, which are used to fund the program’s land protection and restoration work. This involves responding to mitigation credit inquiries, conducting due diligence, developing maps, obtaining internal approvals, processing paperwork, and recording data.
Supervision and CollaborationThe Land Protection and Mitigation Specialist works under the supervision of the Associate Mitigation Program Manager, and collaborates with other OMP staff and TNC staff. They communicate with the Corps, Ohio EPA and other organizations, and individuals as needed in carrying out duties. Work will be generally based in an office setting, with some opportunity for fieldwork. May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances.
This is a remote position that can be located anywhere within Ohio. Columbus, Ohio area preferred. This position will be expected to attend in‑person meetings in Dublin, Ohio at least twice a month.

- BA/BS and 5 years’ experience in natural resource management, land protection, real estate or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience negotiating complex agreements.
- Relationship building experience with a variety of partners, i.e., land trusts, metro parks, state and local government, private landowners.
- Experience with principles of land acquisition.
- Experience communicating with the public and/or media both in writing and verbally.
- Experience completing tasks independently with respect to timeline(s).
- Experience with communication via written, spoken and graphical means in English.
- Experience using common software applications such as Word, Excel, web browsers, etc.
- Real estate experience (including title work, appraisals, surveys, documentation, and closing).
- Knowledge of ecological land management principles.
This position requires a valid driver’s license and compliance with TNC’s Auto Safety Program. Employees may not drive Conservancy-owned or leased vehicles, rental cars, or personal vehicles on behalf of the Conservancy if considered "high risk drivers." Employment in this position will be contingent upon completion of a Vehicle Use Agreement, which may include a review of the prospective employee’s motor vehicle record.
SalaryInformation
The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $71,000 - $73,000. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA.
