Senior Civil or Structural Engineer Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Civil or Structural Engineer to design substation projects for utilities. This role involves overseeing projects from initial engineering stages through construction support. The ideal candidate will possess a Professional Engineer (PE) license, with a Structural Engineer (SE) license preferred. Applicants should have 7-10+ years of experience and a degree in civil or structural engineering.

• Design and analyze substation projects, including steel, aluminum, and stainless steel structures, equipment, foundations, cabinets, and racks.
• Perform concrete design and rebar detailing using software such as Arista 3D, Stad, Mathcad, Lpile, Fad tools, and Mfad.
• Develop substation layouts and bills of materials.
• Provide construction assistance and manage subcontractors effectively.
• Potentially manage projects, including budgets and communication.
• Support forensic work and occasionally assist with Overhead Transmission and Gas Infrastructure projects.

• Proven experience in civil and structural engineering, particularly in substation design.
• Proficiency in using design software like Arista 3D, Stad, Mathcad, Lpile, Fad tools, and Mfad.
• Strong technical background with the ability to detail steel and concrete structures.
• Possession of a Professional Engineer (PE) license.

• Structural Engineer (SE) license is preferred.
• Experience with AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
• Background in power delivery and substation engineering.

This position offers a hybrid work environment, with a preference for candidates located near San Diego or Phoenixville, PA offices. The company expects 4 days per week in-office, but remote work is an option. Flexibility is offered with either a 5/8 or 9/80 schedule, and consistency with the work-from-home schedule is encouraged.

This is a Contract position based out of Chicago, IL.

The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $74.00/hr.
