THE POSITION

Are you a seasoned transportation construction professional who is ready to lead the way on vital bridge and transportation construction projects? The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is seeking an experienced and dedicated Transportation Construction Inspector Supervisor to serve as the Bridge Inspection Team Leader and play a key role in ensuring the Commonwealth's roadway projects are built to last throughout District 10.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As the Bridge Inspection Team Leader, you will be responsible for leading a bridge inspection team and performing a variety of technical duties associated with the inspection of bridges and other structures in accordance with the National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS). Safety inspections will be conducted on existing bridges, including bridge structural members, foundations, supports, and components. Comprehensive bridge inspection records detailing a wide‑range of data, photographs, field sketches, and drawings must be well maintained and accessible.

Inspection records must also address critical findings regarding the current condition and deficiencies, and the NBIS required recording elements as mentioned in Pub 238. General supervisory duties will involve planning, assigning, prioritizing, and evaluating the work of subordinates; planning training and development activities; and participating in the hiring process. Within this role, it is essential to consistently adhere to all safety regulations and policies and immediately report any injuries or accidents.

WORK SCHEDULE AND ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday – Friday, with a 30‑minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part‑time, upon satisfactory completion of the probationary period. Telework is not available within the first six months of employment. To telework, you must have a securely configured high‑speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Indiana.

    The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $51,971.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as a Transportation Construction Inspector (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Two years of construction inspection experience and an associate's degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying engineering technology, or a closely related engineering technology; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • This position is required to meet the qualifications for a bridge inspection team leader as defined by the current National Bridge Inspection Standards.
  • This position requires possession of a valid non‑commercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License or equivalent.
