The U.S. Coast Guard Academy School of Engineering & Cyber Systems (SE&CS) invites applications for Lecturer positions in Engineering. One Lecturer specializing in Civil or Environmental Engineering, one Lecturer specializing in Mechanical Engineering, or one Lecturer specializing in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering is desired. The anticipated start date is June 8, 2026.

SE&CS offers an engaging collaborative work environment with a focus on personal interactions in developing future leaders. The ideal candidates will have a passion for academic excellence in education with a strong commitment to advising, mentoring, and guiding cadets through their coursework.

We seek candidates who are excited to engage with students in every facet of their development journey; cultivating critical thinking, problem‑solving, and teamwork skills essential for the design, construction, operation, and repair of Coast Guard and commercial facilities and operational assets.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teach in‑person undergraduate courses and advise students in Civil & Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and/or Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. Additionally, support the Academy Introductory Mission (AIM) Program during the summer term if required.
  • Mentor and develop undergraduate students as they begin their journey into Coast Guard careers and follow‑on service in engineering professions.
  • Advise senior‑level capstone design projects and undergraduate research in Civil & Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and other related engineering programs.

All teaching is done in person; there is no telework or remote work option. Occasional travel to support field trips and project research may be required. The appointment is a full‑time position for a period not to exceed August 7, 2027 with a trial (probationary) period during the first two years.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Teaching: Experience teaching, including teaching assistant experience, in the Civil Engineering Specialty Area of Structural Engineering or Mechanical Engineering. Ability and intention to employ evidence‑based teaching methodologies. Experience leading student‑centered undergraduate engineering capstone and/or research projects.
  • Professional

    Skills and Experience:

    Professional experience in Civil Engineering (preferably Structural Engineering), Mechanical Engineering, or Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. Consideration will be given to candidates engaged as professional engineers. Experience in other disciplines such as Surveying, software (ArcGIS, Autodesk Revit), Robotics, Autonomous Systems, Material Science, Additive Manufacturing, and AI is also valued.
