CONOPS & Mission Analysis Engineer
As a CONOPS & Mission Analysis Engineer, you will play a critical role in capturing stakeholder requirements and developing high-level Concept of Operations (CONOPS) documents to outline mission phases. Your expertise will contribute to mission scenario modeling, requirements allocation, interface definition, and cross‑functional coordination. You will also lead integration and verification efforts, provide technical leadership, and support on‑orbit operations.
Responsibilities- Collect functional, performance, environmental, and security requirements from stakeholders through workshops, technical interviews, and trade‑study discussions.
- Produce high‑level CONOPS documents outlining mission phases, including launch, early‑orbit operations, commissioning, nominal mission activities, and contingency operations.
- Develop quantitative mission analysis models using tools like SysML and assess alternative system architectures based on performance, cost, and risk metrics.
- Convert CONOPS outputs into system‑level requirements and maintain bidirectional traceability throughout the program lifecycle.
- Define and document interfaces between spacecraft, payloads, the ground segment, and mission operations teams.
- Prepare and present technical updates, risk analyses, and trade‑study results to upper management, customers, or partners.
- Lead trade studies involving spacecraft buses, payloads, launch vehicles, and ground‑segment alternatives.
- Create verification plans, test matrices, test scripts, and validation procedures for operational readiness.
- Provide mentorship to junior engineers and interns and serve as a technical liaison with customers, partners, and external vendors.
- Ensure all analyses, deliverables, and documentation are properly version‑controlled within a PLM environment.
- Provide ongoing support to mission operations teams for health monitoring, anomaly response, and performance trending.
- Experience in systems engineering and satellite mission planning.
- Proficiency in stakeholder requirement capture and CONOPS development.
- Expertise in mission scenario modeling and requirements allocation.
- Ability to define and develop interfaces and manage cross‑functional coordination.
- Strong skills in integration, verification, technical leadership, and mentorship.
- Proficiency in configuration, documentation, and standards management.
- Experience in on‑orbit and operations support, including in‑orbit testing and trade studies.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with SRR, PDR, CDR, and ORR processes.
- Ability to analyze on‑orbit telemetry and support SOOH development.
This role offers a remote work opportunity with occasional international travel. For exceptionally talented and experienced individuals, a remote arrangement on a contractual basis is possible, with potential for on‑site work and conversion to permanent. Mid‑career professionals showing high potential will work 100% on‑site, with opportunities for permanent hire. Junior professionals with high potential will be hired permanently on‑site.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Seattle, WA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $60.00 - $90.00/hr.
